Nothing has the visual impact of high sculpted relief, especially when done with the subtle contours as shown here in Phil's work. For some time the bulino was all the rage thanks to the excellent photos in books by Abbiatico, Nobili and others but the need to twist and turn the actual piece in the light to see it to full advantage considerably reduces bulino's visual impact unless excecuted in the manner that Chris DeCamillis has depicted in the Cafe. I have been detecting a shift in preference to fine high relief work like that of Mr. Coggen, Griffnee, Lovenberg, and the Parker my brother did and depicted in the gallery here. Have any of you sensed a shift in preference for high relief?
