It's with a heavy heart that I report that my dear friend Warren Osborne passed away this afternoon. He was one of the finest men I know and he and his legendary craftsmanship will be sorely missed.

I will post funeral arrangements as soon as I have them.

Sam: I met Warren at the Blade Show years ago. I had one of his knives , an automatic, that I had to engrave for a customer. I was having a hard time trying to to remove the release lever from the knife, as it pivots on a pin with a set screw on either side of it . I could not find an allen wrench small enough to remove the screws from the knife. I went to his table and explained my problem to him and he said not to worry that he would send me a couple. Got home from the show and within a week afterwords I received a package in the mail. In it were three allen wrenches that would fit the screws perfectly. Warren did not have to do this for me but he did, which speaks volumes about what kind of a person he was. He was an incredible artist and his knives were some of the best ever created. He will be remembered and missed.

It is truly sad to see these happenings. Sad not only for his loved ones and friends and admirers like myself, but sad also because of the loss to the knife making world. We lost Joe Kious last year and now Warren; two souls that set the knife making bar where it is today with their impeccable artistry, craftsmanship and genuine passion for what they did. A passion that was and is infectuous. RIP and prayers to his family.

Photo of Warren Osborne, Barry Lee Hands, and me from last year's Knifemaker's Guild Show in Kansas City.

Warren and I go back 30 years when I met him at the Guild Show in KC in 1986. I showed him a knife of his I'd engraved for a customer, and he said that I didn't do such a good job refinishing it, and then explained how to go about it!

That year I met Warren, Joe Kious, and Tom Overeynder, as well as others. The three of us became great friends and shared a hell of a lot of fun times and laughs. We've lost Warren and Joe...two knifemaker greats.

Great photo Sam.
Warren was a class act.
Around 2013 , Warren won "best folder" at the knifemakers guild show with a piece i had engraved, and he insisted i take home the plaque-
I refused.
I said its " best folder" its a knifemakers award , not an engravers award.
So, i finally talked him into taking it home, and i could tell he really enjoyed it.
