Lube for engraving aluminum

I found Hoppe's No.9 gun bore cleaner a good lube when cut aluminum,cutting without the lube the lines are dull with the Hoppe's you get a nice bright cut. J.J.

Good info JJ. Prudhomme used to use kerosene for engraving aluminum. Hoppe's probably smells a lot better.

I know this is an old post but I use WD40 for turning and milling Aluminum. It might work as well for engraving.

50/50 mix hydraulic fluid and diesel fuel.................good stuff for almost any cutting fluid.

Ed's Red bore cleaner. A homemade concoction that I use for a lot of things, contains Dexron ATF, kerosene and mineral spirits. I leave out the acetone. 3 quart cans poured into a gallon can and I have enough for decades. The last batch I used citrus based mineral spirits, it makes it smell good and I cannot tell the difference when using it as a tapping fluid or as a bore cleaner.
