A researcher has found a way to pull images from the countless public domain books that are scanned into the Internet Archive, and is posting them to flickr:
http://tinyurl.com/photodatabase

All are copyright free images from the years 1500 to 1922 (when modern copyright laws started kicking in). Thus far he's uploaded about 2.6 million images, with 12.5 million more to come in the next few weeks.

With the flickr search window you can choose to just search this archive rather than searching all of flickr. Here'a a link to a quick search for "engraving" in this archive:

https://www.flickr.com/search/?w=126377022@N07&q=engraving

A seach for "ornament" turns up loads of good stuff:

Due to the age of these images, I'm sure a very significant percentage are engravings.

Thanks. Just gets me thinking, what else they can do, instantly pull someone's complete profile, or pertinent information. Technology I tell you.

Holy smokes!......I don't have enough life left to look through millions of great images! You have uncovered one of my passions, studying old works of art.

You'd better get started fast. Like I said, there are only 2.6 million images so far, but he's uploading another 12.5 million real soon. Maybe you could go through and add keywords to make it easier for the rest of us to search.
