Microscope Question

I am receiving my m'scope in a couple days and it will have the mount for my camera attached as soon as they arrive.

Its the Meiji scope GRS sells and my camera is a Canon A-95. Its your basic digital point and shoot thing, about 5 megapixels. Does anyone have experience with this camera on a microscope? I am wondering if I need to use the macro setting, or not? ...what do I do with the zoom? ...should I disable the flash? That sort of thing.

I know I can set it up and take a few dozen pictures to figure it out but if anyone can help me keep from re-inventing the wheel I would appreciate it.

I've not done any successful microscope photography, but I do know you'll want to disable the flash. Flash (non-professional types) ruins nearly all macro photos anyway, and I doubt it could reach the subject with the scope in the way.

you don't need a microscope. the little electronic gadgets that attach to the eyepiece tube which allows digital image transfer to your computer will increase the magnification to the point where it will serve no useful purpose. i use these quite nicely in regular high power optical scopes for live photomicrography. the macro settings on your camera will give you all the closeup you'll need to document and show your work. you will have no need of the flash for your macro fotos. the flash at that distance would simply wash out the image. in the macro setting, the flash may not even work. you want glare free very difuse light to do this work. there's a few posts on the forum. check them out. this work requires a bit of experimentation, but the results are worth the effort. do not go out and blow money on a light tent. they can be made from rags, literally ! cardboard boxes, one guy even used a milk jug ! to cast difuse light on his object to be photographed. good luck
