Near Tunica, Louisiana. The Mississippi River flooding has several deer crowded onto the porch of a home. We crossed the river at Vicksburg, MS a couple of days ago and it's incredibly high despite the opening of two spillways.
Sam,
What is the current height of the crest and have they opened the Bonne Carre spillway yet? Seems like I read it was going to be about 56 feet and the levees around NOLA are only 17 feet high. That's a lot of water diversion that has to occur.
ps...those tractors are how rural folks get to the grocery store. The roads in the southern part of our county were closed/flooded for almost 2 weeks with farmers being the only supply lines
They've opened the Bonne Carre and Morganza spillways. The river is cresting now in New Orleans at 16.9' with a flood stage of 17.0'. I think the city's safe but opening the spillways (which spared Baton Rouge and New Orleans of catastrophic flooding) has inundated a lot of folks.
Those homeowners sure have their share of problems just with the water and the aftermath of cleaning up, but if the deer are seeking higher ground the snakes are doing the same thing......
