I just got my old Classic converted to a PalmControl and tried it out on a job for my wife's nursing instructor. She saw a western brightcut bracelet I did a few weeks ago for my wife and sent Sweetie (that's my wife) home with a set of ear rings and 2 pendants for me to do whatever I wanted on.

The ear rings were sterling but the pendant was some kind of silver plated copper with a clear coat on it. I like the two toned effect but after I finished and went to the buffer I discovered a spot between the bird and the flower.

I have some silver plating solution and tried to do the whole thing but no luck. I went back to the buffer with some Fabulustre and took all of whatever that crap was off it so it's all the same finish now.

All those cuts will be bright once I clean all the Flits polish out in the ultrasonic. I left it there so the pics would show up better. I used a mirror polished graver on them; about a 110 or 120.

I think the graver was a Carbalt or possibly a carbide. That little hummingbird was something I learned from Mike Dubber while I was taking a few days instruction in jewelry.

The very purpose was to make something attractive in just a few well placed cuts, same with the flower and when he showed them to me it took me by surprise at how you can say so much with few cuts; frankly it's one of the things I like the most about Mikes jewelry work as well as some of his shading on firearms. Simple yet dramatic.

Sam, I haven't forgotten you, I was waiting till you get settled in before I ship all this stuff. My attempt at infecting you with yet another dose of the watch virus!:D

Incidently, you asked about the graver material and I seem to recall some discussion about carbide in precious metal. Does a carbide graver leave a brighter cut? I know that gold doesn't stick to it as bad as HSS but the bright cut is something I wonder about.

Tim, it is amazing what one can do with a few well placed lines. It is quality that counts and you nailed it............Ron S
