Here are a couple shots of a special project I've just finished with Rick Genovese. I apologize for the marginal photography (rushing to prep for show) and assure you the real thing is far more impressive. It's difficult to get just the right lighting for all the elements, but when it comes together it's amazing.

The concept is: "How much could be done artistically with pretty much nothing but the most basic form of nature: a simple circle?" I wanted to create something ultra-modern without being weird or goofy, and yet still somehow maintain a conservative, classic presence. I was striving for a juxtaposition of the real and surreal in an elegant exercise of simplicity & complexity. I'll leave it to my peers to decide if I've succeeded.

and i must throw in a big 'thank you' to Rick for taking on one of my crazy projects. it wouldn't have been possible without his creativity & mad machine skills. he is truly one of today's most underrated knifemakers.

That is very beautiful... I find myself just staring at it to see something different!

Mitch, Every time see a picture of you three dimensional shading work, knowing that it is as smooth as the metal around it I am just in aye. Call my daughter to come see. She is 27 and just getting he feet wet at engraving. I print them out on photo paper to show to my gun and knife collecting friends. They are of course saved on my network in your file folder. Your are without a doubt the very best and maybe the only person capable of this kind of work.
There should not be a high end knife or gun collector in the world who doesn't have a piece of your work. I know you would never have the time to fill your orders. If I could afford it I would have you create a small work on a say 3x5 sheet of gold or platinum with inlays of contrasting colored metal and mother of pearl. This would go to a museum who would understand what it is and how incredibly rare it is. You are truly the most original artist I have ever seen, Bar None-Fred

Thanks to all for your kind comments, I blush!

Sam- I'm used to having my work laughed at, but not in a good way. Truly one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about my engraving, thanks.

Fred- "There should not be a high end knife or gun collector in the world who doesn't have a piece of your work." From your lips to God's, and collectors', ears. ;)

My God... it even gave me a moment of vertigo as I was staring. Wow.

How did you go at this?

Set up some bearings, marbles and BBs with a light source to look at/compare to as you cut it?

Set it up a "model" as above and photographed it, then worked from the image? (Probably easier than chasing bearings & BBs all over the bench)

Or didja just just make it up as you went along?
