this gives me an idea: I'm gonna find some really odd, unidentifiably obscure little widget and tuck it away amongst my massive collection of engraving tools. When that morass passes into someone else's possession, they'll be posting messages like yours, assuming the strange item is somehow related to my profession...
Good plan. The guy who I got all these tools off sadly passed away but I remember seeing this thing on his bench quite often. So that’s why I’m assuming it’s something to do with engraving.
If the pins fit the hole centers of an engraving vise it may be a fixture to hold the ejector tube of a SA revolver in different positions for engraving. ??????
The pins do fit the jaws of a vise . It’s quite possible the it’s for holding something . He was a very good friend of mine and I’m sure he would’ve told me if he was engraving revolvers he only did soft metals.
it appears the rotating element has four different size engagements(?) between the pairs of 'claws', so perhaps it's rotated to hold four different size objects?
