After telling half a million friends I am looking for a microscope for engraving I finally got something to show for it, guy has two that he would sell me for a pretty fair price

First is a Unitron ZSB with boom stand. looks clean and clear

Second is a Nikon SMZ-1B with stand and light ring. The only thing that worries me is it has 20x eyepieces. Is that going to make it hard to work under?

yes, likely the 20x will. except for specialty engraving, a 10x set of occulars will allow one to do all normal engraving. these are readily available on ebay. be sure to order them in "wide field".

i went with the unitron. i think i will be happy with it. the occulars are WF 10x so im guessing that means wide field and has a .5x objective lense

I believe Unitrons are excellent scopes. If I'm not mistaken that's what Don Glaser used.

Great! I was kinda worried about it because I have never heard of the brand but I saw it on the scope buy list in the tips section and felt a little better about my purchase

I forget the details, but Unitron was bought out by another microscope company or they bought someone else out...or something like that. Olympus maybe? I used Don's Unitron and it was an excellent scope. I'd say you're good to go. Congratulations :)

I swear if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all!!!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction for replacement parts? Would I be correct that this is the rack an pinion gear?

All else fails, make friends with a machinist!
Better yet, take them back and get a refund.

I am currently on selecting microscope.
It is very difficult, most stores are only online.
And it's very risky.
Perhaps you will choose a cheaper option ... I'm still a beginner!
It turned out that all the instruments in this profession are very expensive!
You will need to imroviziram ...
I'll be glad of any advice from you!
Greetings to all!

if you're not familiar with scopes and their use, don't be in a hurry to buy one. first-- you want to chose a binocular zoom scope. with a .5x objective. whether new or used, regardless of brand, these 3 features are a must for engraving. bargains are available thru ebay. take your time and familiarize yourself with what's available. i doubt you're going to find a good deal for less than $500.00 u.s. this will let you know -you're going to have to spend some cash to get what you seek. how much you spend is up to you. good luck, joro in your search.

First thing for you to do is contact mrthe on this forum.
He, also, is from Spain. He will be a good contact for you.
Heck, he may even have an extra scope!

Thank you very much for your advice!
You're very kind.
I stopped a microscope as new 300 euros.
I think I can at the moment.
I do not know whether it is correct to post here its data to tell me if I can use it in the engraving.
And all I want to ask such elementary things though because there are professionals ...
I only just begun! :)

Greetings to all!

pp I already have a table ... :)
