Overshading

Sam, is there any way you can post up that original photo alongside something you've done more recently so people can see what you're trying to tell them?

Marcus: Here's a comparison and the example on the right is what I would like to think of as more intelligent shading vs the one on the left, which has twice as many lines.

I think the example on the right has more character, is more engraving-like, and perhaps more organic.

Once again, I'm speaking strictly of my own work in this thread and no one else's. This is my personal observation of a portion of my engraving journey.

Sam, I understand now what you have been trying to tell us the knife looks like a black and white photo. The letter is more what comes to mind when I think engraving. They both still look awesome to me. Thanks for posting side by side that really cleared up for me what you meant.
