Absolutely beautiful engraving job on the kudu.
But IMO too much scroll in both layouts and it overworked the canvas.
Heavy scroll dominates a beautiful light scene.
Balance the design.Give the area some "air."
Don't crowd the presentation.

So if I understand you correctly the scrolls are too tight or too busy. On all the pieces or just the butt plate? I superimposed the design on the bottom metal and wonder if you comment applies there too.

Hello Dan,
And thank you for your reply. Remember........it's just my opinion.........other's may disagree.
And I don't know what a client is maybe asking for. That could be key.
Your scroll work is great and so are your animals.
To me they are crowding each other and fighting for breathing space.
You are a fine engraver but the design aspect is failing you.
In your latest design the all the weight is at the bottom and the beautiful animal looks
(to me) to be an afterthought.
Less scroll below, move the animal down and add some scroll corners above it's head.
Leave some blank space between the scroll both above and below the animal
It may be better if we take this discussion "off air" and use PM.
That way we can argue it out without embarrassing each other.

Thanks so much for your guidance John. I must admit that there is much to consider when designing. A bit daunting at times, but still fun. Let me try some changes and see what I can come up with.

I doubt that I will make Vegas in 2020 but who knows what 2021 will bring.

Hi Mitch. Yes, I think I will. I’m now retired from my day job and recently started cutting some bulino after about three years of just drawing. Need to practice my pneumatic skills before cutting the rifle. But I will get there.
