This is not engraving, quite, but it shows tools and a nice wash of painterly light.

Super nice detail work on the stock. Would like to understand your painterly in more detail. How and what was used with the process.

mgreen, the light is natural, coming in through the window. I use a glancing light to look for lumps and bumps in the stock while I'm paring the background down. The photo was just one of those that I got lucky on. I'm using a Nikon SLR, with the Nikkor 18-55 zoom kit lens, white balance on cloudy, ISO 400, f22. Most important, I use a tripod.

For goldsmiths the cross pein is used for riveting, very cool photos!
