A couple of practice plates.... after Sam posted Ken Hunts plates that he had done when he was young I was impressed and inspired to try and fill the space on the plate, and with some helpful instruction I tried to do better on my scrolls.
I agree - they're quite nice. The second plate is really interesting. It's a clear example that the 'rules' of scroll construction / flow don't always apply. Even though some of the secondary scrolls are coming off 'wrong' the plate looks great.
Thanks Sam and everyone for the comments! Brian, no paying jobs yet so I guess I'll keep practicing? I do have a question about the flow of scroll, I am still learning and find it challenging to make scroll fit/ flow and still look good. I have seen scroll start off the end of a tendril which is what I was attempting on the secondary scrolls. Is this a correct way to accomplish this or is there another way to make it look right?.... below are a couple of examples of what I was attempting, Thanks again!
