I Have Had Very Good Results Using A Epson C66 Printer With The Transfer Magic Solution. Now My Printer Has Given Out And I Am In Trouble. Printers That Are Recommended For Use With This Product Are Not Made Any Longer. The Hp 3740 Listed On This Forum Has Been Discontinued Also. Do Any Of You Know Of A Newer Printer That Is Presently On The Market That Can Be Easily Purchased That Will Work With This Transfer Solution? Thanks In Advance For Any Advice As To This Problem.

Sincerely, Dick Sheehan:(

Dick, I believe any printer that uses epson durabrite ink (I think that's what it's called) will work. I recently purchased an epson scanner/printer model CX3810 and it work very well with the transfer magic. I used the same settings I use with the C66.

I believe Cody is correct, it is the cartridge that counts. I recently switched to this transfer method and had to start from scratch. I went to the Epson site and bought a discounted (-$30) Epson Stylus CX5800F which is one of their better "all in one" (print, fax, scan) machines using "Durabrite" ink. Bought it, an extra black cartridge and a box of transparencies. If not for the $60! shipping to me here in Alaska all would have cost < $150.
Works Great!

I'm a really unhappy Epson customer. I just retired my 3rd one and went with a HP. I'll let you know how it works. My last Epson C88 started printing crooked making it useless for mailing and CD labels. We do have an Epson photo printer that's quite awesome, but it's a specialized model and can't be used for transfers.

I'm with Sam. I had an Epson C-86 that quit one day - it started banding and no amount of cleaning, etc. would fix it. Then I bought an Epson C-88 2 months ago. Yesterday it started with the banding and skipping just like the C-86. Now I don't know what to do. I'd be glad to buy something that works - and keeps on working - but it seems like an impossible task. The real kicker is that I have a lot of 86 ink that won't work in the 88. I guess I'm going to have to put that stuff on e-bay. I'm definately not going to get another Epson.

i can only say i'll never buy another epson. the price of the refill cartridges would put one in the poorhouse. notwithstanding the fact that the bleepin printer printed fewer than 180 total pages before it totally bought the farm ! caveat emptor, baby cakes !

I haven't tried the injet printers and the transfer magic. I figured I try to use what I have which is a laser printer. Instead of the transfer magic I use a mixture (10:1) denatured alchohol and Bullseye clear varnish (home depot - $5) (found this mixture on another website but don't remember where). I got the transparency recipe from this forum (Great inkjet transfers thread)- Bar of soap spread onto a transparency. I wet a paper towel, rub it across a bar of soap (ivory or similar), wipe it on the transparency (cheap stuff from walmart) in a thin layer and let it dry. Print on the soap side in the laser printer. Put a thin coat of the the varnish mixture onto the item to be engraved, let dry to tacky, position the transparency on the item and rub. I've had 90-100% transfer. I have not had any issues with the soap in the printer since it is dry when I print and I use the printer a lot. Once I have the image transferred I spay a light coat of art fixative (for pencil drawings) to keep from smearing the image while engraving. My printer is an HP laser. There are good laser printers for around $100. The cartridges are around $50-$65 but they last a long time.

My 2 cents.

Interesting discovery..... While cleaning out a cluttered closet , I came accross a bunch of old floppy disk lables. The kind where you peel off the waxed paper and use the sticky label. I looked at the waxed paper and wondered if I printed a design on it would it stick to it. Well, I tried it and it works as a transfer. I'm sure I can fine tune it , but it seems to show promise. Just have to find 8 1/2 x 11 in. sheets of this type of paper.Love to hear of anyone else out there who's tried this .

Big Lots had HP 2100 for $35.00
Sunday and alot of them, I got one because I haven't used a ink jet for years, only a laser and tranfered with the Sam's acetone...
After going to Ray Covers and meeting Gail from Boston and the Silk paper she transfers with and seeing how good it tranfered I'm going to try it...
Ask Gail or Ray Cover...
Ray has some great transfer media...
Thanks Gail and Ray

I use a lexmark and it transfers fine. I think it's a z23. I quite buying Epsom's long ago because the print head is built in the machine. When the ink would dry up a little in the head the printers done. The lexmark heads are built in the cartridge if it dries all you have to do is get a new cartridge
