When a person is cursed with a full head of hair like myself.... I simply wear a snug fitting simmers cap while engraving. This seems to work well as my engraving is improving with leaps and bounds.

Dennis, a swim cap?

I don’t mean to assert my beliefs too strongly but this is something I am quite passionate about. I don’t wish to offend and in fact, there was a time in my life when I felt much like you. So I can empathize and if wearing a snug fitting swim cap makes you feel better about to the fact that you are not naturally bald, I can’t judge you for that. I admit I have worn shower caps myself just trying to fit in.

See, I too suffer from a full head of hair and though (for the most part) people don’t judge me by it, I am none-the-less always conscious of it sitting there on my head. Even so, I really believe that God made me this way for a reason and who am I to question that? I have accepted my lack of baldness, but even so I struggle daily to completely overcome my shame. (I still haven’t uploaded an avatar photo though I tell myself that my hair is nothing to be ashamed of.)

I guess what I’m trying to say, Dennis is this. Be proud of what you have achieved in life despite your hair. Yes it is the hand you have been dealt and it may not seem fair, but just look how far you have come in life despite this seemingly cruel twist of fate.

I have to admit that the benefits of baldness (profound wisdom, Greek God stature, the allure of women, heightened level of humility and otherworldly engraving talents) certainly do seem enviable. But some of us are just not bald and (let’s face it), we may never be bald. Still...That’s OK.

Oh sure, you could turn to the razor for answers but that’s only a temporary and fleeting escape from hair. Even then there would always be the cruel whispering and pointing behind your back when the stubble inevitably showed through the scalp at the least opportune time. “Look he’s not really bald! Who does he think he’s fooling?!†Dennis, don’t give them the satisfaction of such hurtful humor at your expense. Don’t lower yourself to that. No matter how shiney your head might temporarily be, deep down you would know that you were only pretending to be something you are not.

I say NO! Hold your head up in spite of your hair! Join me and the other downtrodden members of our brotherhood. Stand against bald supremacy! Together we can put an end to the tyranny that is baldness. As a unified force, we can fight the injustice of the shiney elite! Join me and the rest of our furry engraving brethren… FAT, DUMB, HAIRY, and MEDIOCRE!

Vilts, Dulltool, JBrandvick and others cursed with the affliction of a full head of hair.

Fear not, all is not lost and there is always hope. Below is a photo of myself at the tender age of 17 accompanied by my wife to be Mary. As you can clearly see I had a full head of hair. Shocking I know, but deep down inside I knew there was a receeding hairline and bald patch just waiting to come out.

Time, practice and creative thinking soon started taking care of that. OK I started early but the moral of the story is that it’s never too late for you to lose your hair and join the ranks of creative bald men and the shiny elite!!!!!!.

Occasionally it has been observed that some men with long hair like Ray Cover may display some of the attributes of bald men because they have somewhere in their family lineage…………………a bald ancestor

Cheers
Andrew

What bugs me with this beautiful head of lack of hair that I have is........I don't even get half price haircuts for half the work from the barber. They are capitalists.
Also when you bump your head bending down to get something under the workbench.....the scratch/cut shows off really good.

I am one of those 40 something engravers that is finally starting to improve. From this discussion I now understand that my engraving improvement is related to my hair loss, but there is still one thing I do not understand. Why, when the hair falls out of you head, does it consistently re-attach itself on your back and lower?

How about I get the right side of my head shaved that is supposed to be the creative side
Do you think that will help any? I'm getting pretty desperate.

If as has been suggested engraving improves because of less time spent on hair and more on practice I invite all of you to join me in my "ultimate low maintenance face" approach. Not only do I have the dome but I've added the furry face. Actually added that in 1982 and my 25 year old has never seen my face except in pre-marriage photos. If this has helped along the way I will gladly claim it. I prefer to justify the furry face based upon sophisticated rationale but the fact is I'm so ugly the more we can cover up the better for all.
