    Using bondo to hold work

Hi, When using bondo (auto body filler) to hold work, does a release agent need to be applied to the metal, or can the work be removed simply by heating? Thanks

    Help with image transfers

Clearly, not all inks are the same. As mentioned before, I have tried several modern printers, both inkjet and laser, to no avail. The basic Canon inkjet printer that I have uses some type of ink that gets hard no matter what medium printed on and does not come off, even when scrubbed with...

    Help with image transfers

Does the Brother laser printer work with the acetone method using paper instead of transparency?

    Help with image transfers

Well, my transparency sheets came today and nothing worked. Whatever is in ink these days, it is super permanent. Not even scrubbing the ink directly with acetone will remove it from the transparency sheet. I even tried using the heat gun while burnishing and the transparency sheet began to...

    Help with image transfers

I ordered some transparency sheets today. Not Pictorico, but they have the two different sides. My printer is Canon, not sure what kind of ink it uses, but I will give it a shot. I have noticed that the newer inks seem to be more indelible than they used to be. I remember printing labels and...

    Help with image transfers

Hi, I have tried several laser printers around the office and even went to Staples to use theirs, but none of them work with the acetone transfer method. It seems that whatever is used for the toner, it does not dissolve with the acetone. I've also tried a few different ways to use my inkjet...

Ball vise for hammer & chisel?

Currently I am using this in expensive swivel vice from Harbor Freight. Believe it or not, it actually works quite well. I adjust the work by loosening the screws on the sides and it pivots in two directions. Only problem is, this process can take several seconds, sometimes just enough to...

Ball vise for hammer & chisel?

Does a basic ball vise work for hammer & chisel? What keeps it from spinning while you are working, since with H&C you don't have one hand on the vice like you do when using pneumatic or push? Thanks

Help with tight hammer and chisel cuts

Thank you Sam. About how much cant or rotation is needed to do that?

Help with tight hammer and chisel cuts

I have been using the Sam Alfano wood chisel handle that GRS sells with various gravers in the 3/32" ballpark, 90-degree, face angle 45 degrees with 15 degree heel angle sharpened to about 1/4 mm. I also have a longer homemade wood handle, and the steel Belgium style handle that GRS sells.

Help with tight hammer and chisel cuts

Hi, When cutting tight radii, small spirals and volutes, etc. should the chisel be rolled one way or the other, or should it be held straight without any cant to the inside or outside? I've been trying all three ways with mixed results, and can't tell which is the proper way. Thanks.

    Inferior to what?

    Trouble with laser printer transfers

Thanks for the replies. I guess my original question might not have been clear. I have been using printers that I believed to be laser, and the acetone transfer is not working. What I should have asked was, if I set out to buy a laser printer, is there any way to identify which ones will work...

    Trouble with laser printer transfers

So are all laser jets not created equal? I'm still at a loss as to why I haven't been able to find one that works for this (work, Staples, etc.). I've had mixed results using ink jet printer and clear plastic. Works, but isn't as crisp or durable.

    Trouble with laser printer transfers

Is anyone else having trouble finding a modern printer that will work for acetone transfers? I've been trying printers at work, and even at Staples, and none of them are working with the acetone. Seems the print is indelible, even when the acetone is applied directly.
