A few more suggestions--if you want to spend quality time with a bulino guru (and a scroll guru and a shading guru), Lee Griffiths may also be one you want to consider. If you can't travel to his site, he is about to start offering online classes, so stay tuned for that. Lee has taught live at...
There is nothing like being there with an instructor to get little nuances that you can't get from videos. Several schools have Lindsey equipment available, such as Ray Cover's school and the Texas Engraving School. If you haven't tried bulino at all, you may want to start with excellent videos...
It could be cleaning. It could also be that the drag adjustment screw has somehow gotten tightened. Try opening up the adjustment screw first. You may wish to call GRS and talk to Greg Gentry, the repair guru. He is very helpful.
Oh, what fun! My painter friends will have some fun with that--one in particular that both paints birds and has an agile mind. Thanks for putting this up.

This design gives much better contrast and balance. This is a great design to use for exploring how best to create depth with contrast in shading. If you are like me, you may find that trying different shading on some areas before spending the time to cut the whole piece may both reduce total...
A good hand engraver can take your signature file, transfer it to the object, use either a hammer and chisel graver or an air or electric assisted handpiece with graver to cut your signature exactly as if you had it in your hand. A rotary handpiece does not give the same high-end look. Hand...
These don't have a grip for a round rod. They have what, for lack of a better term, is a double circle grip, where you slip the curved back end of an ink nib between the circles and it is held in with pressure.
You may want to consider a leaf foldover to reduce the long shading lines on the prominent vertical section on the left of the design. Likewise, a foldover or two on the similar section to the right side of the middle of the design.
If you already have a vector file of the signature, have you considered having a hand engraver transfer the image to the item and engrave it by hand? There are very talented hand engravers in the NYC area.
