Archie, first see what a good metalsmith thinks about removing the vibro numbers.
If that is a negative the numbers can be cut deeper with a graver and inlaid with carbon steel soft iron binding wire.
In the past I have bought several guns and restored them that way.
Mitch, they are not much to look at but the liners cut so well when hammer driven.
They come in some of the finest, tight line spacing I have ever seen.
Hi Mitch, I expect you know this but other may not.
Back in the day Fredrich Dick made all the gravers and liners for the FN Browning company in Liege, Belgium.
The actual graver and/or liner and square handle was made in one piece of high grade steel 10 mm. square by 210 cm. long.

Hi John, I hear they found Richard III in a car park. As I recall, he would have welcomed a horse that was foundering.
Yes Fred,
He was buried under the blacktop. of what became a parking lot.

Best of luck on your search for instruction.
Check with the NRA to see where colleges are holding Summer Engraving classes.

I have seen Sam do wonders with with his white bed sheet set up. And it all folds...
Hello Dan,
And thank you for your reply. Remember........it's just my opinion.........other's may disagree.
And I don't know what a client is maybe asking for. That could be key.
Your scroll work is great and so are your animals.
To me they are crowding each other and fighting for breathing...
You asked for an opinion.
Absolutely beautiful engraving job on the kudu.
But IMO too much scroll in both layouts and it overworked the canvas.
Heavy scroll dominates a beautiful light scene.
Balance the design.Give the area some "air."
Don't crowd the presentation.
