I think the way the hammer and chisel guys on here like to do it is just a plain old vice on a secure pedestal that they can walk around, as a-posed to rotate the vice. I’ve played around w hammer and chisel when my wrist was off.. disabled rotation in my setup and just chased my line
Thorns on the vines?
I like sams idea.... then you would have literally dark vines and light vines.. you could also darken up the veins overall with more elaborate shading..
This isn’t probably an idea worth anything, but it might look more erratic if the scrolls had facets rather than...
you know how to make blades, so you can make gravers. i usually temper my gravers anyways, but I read in a blacksmith book that he didn't even bother to temper his very small tools after hardening.. I've tried it with a couple, and honestly, they haven't seemed to suffer.. you can glue your...
the mirror reflected version of themselves would be the version that your parents would be most familiar with.. its a funny thing that if we were to see ourselves as others do it would feel distinctly off to us.
when I work on large wood sculptures (totem poles) I find it particularly helpful...
made bent gravers from old gravers, chainsaw files, saw files, carbide tipped circular blades (leaving the carbide at the tip) and some 1/8 " springs steel. all good
After 3/32, those chisel holders can basically handle any typical geometry... which is to say, i switched to hammer and chisel when my wrist was sore and i had some carving to do on the rd. I did not have to change any geometry and i was amazed at how much control I had with the technique.
THE other thing that is different in my victor is the heavy centre piece with the double claw at the centre of the screw.
But I’ve only got a few videos so I don’t know how unusual this mechanism is, or even if it’s common across all victors
THose are some pretty slick pin Jaws Seth is making you. Makes me want to invent something to get him to make me lol.
I just looked at my victor, it does have that hole through the surface.
Plus it has the double Chanel’s in the lower jaw. And I don’t know if its worth any salt but it...
the anchors holes on the jaws look familliar.. much like my grs vise.. but a few distinctions.. in particular the second split on the mouth of the jaws.. (is there, or is there room for a steel ball in the bottom of the bore?
i'm flying to haida gwaii tomorrow, ill check my Victor vise...
Does anybody know what the cold water cement is that the polisher puts on as a resist?
Looked up cold water cement... results were a bunch of concrete mixing instructions
i love that vise.. all you need for flat work, but ya, with a turntable all you need is clamping, then you would have the ability to centre your rotation. which is more than just useful for under a scope, it will make smooth curves much more easy (tho they arent that hard on a conventional...
should be able to do it with a tilted vise.. but it is much simpler if your vise is planar.. in which case, dont't bother with an engraving vise at al, just glue your work to a big steel slug, or even a block of heavy hardwood.
