Hello Kim, and welcome to the Cafe and the would of engraving.
For many thing, straight lines or gentle curves #1 will work fine.
#2 will create less heel drag on tight curves and small scroll.
Both types of heel have been around and successfully used for many years.
Thanks for posting the good pictures of your work Chip.
I remember you were a youngster of 15 when you took the engraving classes and we had to get special permission for you to be able to take the college classes.
You did a good job for someone just getting back to engraving after 20 years...
Always fun to hear news from an ex-student.
Good to have you back in the engraving family, Chip.
And to see you active on the Cafe Forum.
Hope you enjoy your new tool acquisitions and post some pics of your work soon.
Borzzza, I think all your ideas will work.
Give them a try and see which one works the best for you.
A fine job on the watch so far.
And a great nail polish :)
As always Lee, it was a privilege to visit with you and see your great works of art.
But this year, great as your works are, it was your 17 month old granddaughter that stole the show and our hearts.
Best to you and your family my friend, keep drinking the chocolate milk, it seems to work :)
As an aside Jake may I ask if you are related to the oil painting artist Justin Dalton?
Many years ago I commissioned paintings from him for my design business.
Jake,
Thank you for the photograph of, L-R Dr. John Gunn, John B. and your sterling self.
It was great meeting you at the FEGA welcome party put on by our President Barry Lee Hands.
As a first timer I hope you attend many more meetings and display your talented engraving.
Wishing a safe journey to all Cafe members and other making the trip to the Firearms Engravers Show this week.
Have a wonderful, enjoyable visit with your friends. See some outstanding engraving and a safe trip home.
Leonardo, it's wonderful having you back on the forum.
Only you with your analytical mind and engineering experience could provide the wonderful graph of pressure for different graver shapes and depth.
Great info for someone who is developing a cutting system.
Thank you for all your work on...
Pleurotus, my friend, you are overthinking this.
Grinding some small HS drill shanks is not going to harm your grinding wheels.
I have ground hundreds of them using the same wheel.
Just grind them slowly and keep them cool by drawing them back into a wet paper towel.
And use the same method if...
