After reading your post I did a little google-fu and found this great article on Ken Hunt's work: https://shootingsportsman.com/godfather-gun-engraving/
Thanks Sam.
.009 = 31 gauge. In the lower karat materials I use 26 - 30 gauge for overlay depending on the application. Only a .001 difference between 30 and 31.
Looks great!
¡Maravilloso elogio, Valentina! Su trabajo ha sido bendecido por uno de los mejores grabadores y maestros del mundo moderno. No comete errores. A partir de este día, su trabajo es bendecido por el maestro. ¡No puedo esperar a verlo! Felicidades!
Wonderful tutorial, Sam. Fascinating!
Please share what gauge you are using, and the process you are using for material deposition/removal.
I use a similar (?) process for 14K/18K gold overlay but it involves soldering the gold plate to the primary surface (silver/steel/whatever), and I...
Here's the bottom line for me. I'm an American designer and craftsman, from an American manufacturing industry decimated by offshoring labor to countries paying subsistence labor pricing, and engaging in foreign copycatting (often unencumbered by intellectual property law) and outright...
Why don’t you call GRS, and see what they think? After all, it’s their design and who would be in a better position to offer advice about what do do about getting knock off accessories for your Chinese copy?
There are probably a thousand ways to do what you want to do. I usually just want the best results with the least amount of bother and time invested.
I've been using Rustoleum flat black enamel thinned with a bit of lighter fluid. Learned about it from one of Sam's videos, and it works like a...
Since the sides top and bottom are parallel, I just put the clip in an engraving vise with the top of the money clip even with the top of vise, and crank down until the piece is in there solidly.
I agree. Was thinking in terms of a purely personal project, but somehow all of my personal projects eventually end up as finished products or entire product lines. I can't remember the last time I actually held on to something I made 'for myself'.
You're correct in all respects. Good expert...
Thanks Allen. I did not know that Rex has been using these, and I've been looking at Rock Island 1911s. For a first time project especially, I like the price.
There's also one from SDS imports I've been looking at. The SDS looks solid, sells for well under $500 and has got a black cerakote...
I think you're on the money regarding a border. It's a great way to cover leftover space, and the elements can be used in other areas for a cohesive design.
This particular 1911 belongs to a good friend. A few years ago, before I ever picked up a graver, I polished the barrel and slide for him...
This is what I’m working with at the moment. Started out as an exercise, and understand it needs some adjustment, improvement, but I’m finding I really want to engrave it.
