I will ask the company about heat and thermal shock resistance. The german depandance proposes the coating of motorcycle manifolds. Perhaps it lasts…

You could precitipation harden gold as well, but to what extent and how exactly to do it depends on the precise alloy. The supplier of the sheet metal should be able to tell you. I‘m just familiar with some german alloys, it will not work the same way for alloys from other foundries. The general...
When working with silver, try Argentium for your domes. Two advantages:
-it does NOT firestain, comes out of the pickle with a white matte finish after soldering
-your finished piece can be tempered at 300-350 °C 1 hour for hardening without altering the surface (much), it may darken a little...
Tried one about 6 years ago, was hugely disappointed by the magnification / working distance dependance, the amout of light it captured and the noise in the image. It was no cheapo, about 200-300 Euros, from a colleague who had tried it out for parts inspection.
I’m toying with a similiar idea...
One more point: This microscope is old. Over the years, some scopes develope a problem called “fungus”, something to do with a biological process attacking the glue that holds the achromatic lenses together (pairs made of glasses with different refraction indexes to minimize chromatic...
Yes, very beautiful indeed… Strange conincidence: doesn‘t „Mori“ mean „forest“ in Japanese? Wikipedia confirms my hunch, but also says „Mori“ is a pretty common surname in Japan. So, perhaps not too much of an coincidence after all.

According to the deepl translator, the swedish guy asks if anybody knows anything about the ball vise, like age and what was it used for.
I don’t, never seen one made from brass or bronze before. The trust bearing in the center could be a retrofit, the grooves in the halves look like an unused...
I experienced comparable weight losses while melting silver when I replaced my broken air-propane torch by a small oxygen-propane torch. To get enough heat (BTU, not temperature) from the small torch I turned the gases to high flow. As a result, I agitated the molten silver a lot by the high...
The brass lock cover looks positively machine engraved… would have expected hand engraved english small scroll or similiar for that price, done and signed by one of you internationally renowned master engravers ;)
Hi brennon272, I have no answers to your questions, except that „drawing skills seem very important, what you can‘t draw you can not engrave convincingly“. I‘m a bit in the same situation as you, with focus on jewellry engraving. I‘d also like hints to books and online references, suitable for...
The test I did with Inkscape, iPad and Easy Canvas resulted in:
-the 24“ Windows screen was exported to the 12.9“ iPad
-YES, I could use the the apple pencil there with Inkscape
-BUT due to the big difference in size and my lack of experience with inkscape it felt very unnatural, and after some...
Hi Michael,
What kind of graphic tablet do you use with inkscape? I hooked the iPad Pro up to the PC with Easy Canvas, but that did not work as I had imagened.
As far as I know, abrading the topmost layer of diamond tools to restore their “bite” works ONLY for tools with diamonds in the volume, not just one layer at the surface.

Hi, I use a similiar method. I got some „potch“ from an art store which is used to glue mirror-printed pictures with the printed side to solid material. Once dry, it is blown at with a hair dryer or hot air gun for some minutes. Then one could wet the paper and rub it away carefully.
It works...
Hello Michael,
Firstly, I like it very much, currently I‘m not able to draw 1% of this. I would like to improve my skills and would therefore like to know if you followed a direct (personal contact, unthinkable right now) or video course. I did not find a DVD or download course for iPad drawing...
