I developed the following method for microscope centering on turntables:
I used a b/w laser printer for a 2D dot pattern with about 0.3mm spacing on white paper and glued this to a magnetic label for inkjet printers.
Place this on your work piece or on the ball vise‘s jaws. Center the vice...
Hello Monk,
I use hotmelt glue already, I’d like to try the the PVC block. Did you cut the found graver lines criss-cross or just in one direction?
Cheers

I had a look at their courses. I’m no scientist. But I spent 20 years in universities and particle accelerators as an engineer. I would treat some of their information carefully, to me it is seasoned a little bit too much with “eso…” while I miss the the spice of “serious”

Hi Stonesetter,
I engrave and make jewelry at home, at a non-profit basis. I work full time as electronics engineer. I’m still learning engraving. I might have some useful information about tools and sharpening. I’ll try to send you a message. Would be nice to have contact who shares my...
Hi, I was in a similar situation concerning the purchase of american goods (I live at the French / German boarder), and built my first system arround Degussit stones (sintered Ruby) for honing and diamond plates from ebay for shaping gravers.
To your question: The diamond plates kept their...
My favorite for small divisions is the Riefler 13c. No longer made, but still kicking arround at ebay, german flea markets (like mine) and some internet sellers. A little less than 4“ long (9.5cm), very light and precise as the legs are essentially one piece. Perhaps a tool maker takes the...
Interesting question. I just measured, the microscope is tilted by about 14 degrees. I use it also for stone setting, where the angled view comes in handy. Turning in and out of focus is rarely a problem. I usually work with high magnification, the field of view is 2cm or less.
Hi, I got my iPad Pro dezember 2019, read about the sketchboard, and thought it a good idea. I had seen before other designs from wood or plywood also. I had no patience to wait for the sketchboard, so I went to the hardware store and bought some hard PVC foam boards, their thickness the same as...
Hello Emerald Jim,
Thanks for Your positive feedback!
This ones is 0.8mm or 1/32“ thick. It is the first one, let‘s see how well it works. It‘s dimensions are 55x12.5 mm, it feels pretty heavy. I might try 0.6 mm next time. From my feeling 0.6 might work for single sided engraving. If somebody...
Hello,
Here’s a picture of a silver bookmark I engraved after the Vectornator design I recently posted in “Digital art”. I’m aware that it’s far from perfect and is also far away from the styles of gun or knife engraving.
Cheers
Ralf
Hi, here’s my first attempt at scrollwork design with Vectornator. I did not strictly follow a specific style, just doodling away. Vectornator has a function for spirals which makes decent backbones. I used 70% as spiral parameter for them, that fits the golden spiral best. The beauty cuts are...
Can‘t say. I‘m only certain that slightly radiused heels make shinier cuts, but than I work mostly with silver. I only put radiused heels on flat gravers systematically.
Maybe it‘s the way you polish the gravers, that makes a difference between wider and narrower V angles?
