Being a paper and pencil guy, I have and use a scanner along with an updated version of corel draw. I print designs to transfer and they are minimalist outlines, then scan the design to the computer upsize the design and print several copies to work out the shading.
I have an ipad pro but have...
Have begun doing as others have suggested, use a scribe and indelibly mark the design into the part being engraved, at that point there is no more worry about smears, smudges, or disappearing lines, it does add a little bit of time to the overall project but well worth it in the stress reduction...
Not going to be of much help here, that said there are a couple things that stick out to me, first thing is that those "initials" look stamped not the normal method an engraver would use to sign their work, second thing is that the method of engraving looks to be hammer and chisel versus air...
No disrespect,
This site is not functioning for the average viewer, it is designed and operated for the beginner thru advanced engraver, by pointing out the seemingly insignificant details it allows everyone that views those pictures and related critique to up their game, educated practitioners...
I don't currently own such a scribe, that said does the offset oval allow for the scribe to get closer to the oval in a manner that would allow for a very narrow border line.
In other words would the oval interfere with closing the scribe enough to make a narrow border.

Very nice piece you have there, you might get a bit more traffic on the general engraving board.

I sold my pre AT Gravermach from 2006 with all three hand pieces and the foot pedal for $1500.00 a couple years ago, it was fifteen years old and I was in a hurry, it sold in less than 24 hours, could...
Try GRS site, knock off about 20% double check the numbers in the classifieds and go from there.
Quality equipment holds it's value quite well, that being said used is still used.
Wish I'd have seen this when first posted, in my experience 304 stainless is miserable to cut, bought a bunch of money clips from a major jewelry supplier a few years back, they were cheap , after working with a few of them I understood why, still have a bunch of them left, ended up overlaying...
Thing is, as well as its made and all you're most likely looking at a $50.00 paperweight if you cannot find a barlow lens to increase working distance, just a thought.
Nikon makes good stuff, their camera's etc are well made.
The things that stand out for me are that there is no model number visible in the picture, no dimensions on the objective lens, these are important in searches as you'll want to be able to search for the parts required to make it able to...
