Work holding with Cerro Safe type alloys.

When I was a certified high voltage cable splicer, we needed to repair or fabricate joints in high voltage cables (4160 volts up) and a lot of them, especially those intended for underwater or a highly corrosive environment, were lead lined. To complete the splice we had to encase it in lead...

Announcement: Alvin Chewiwi - FEGA Master Engraver

Congratulations on your well deserved Master status. It looks like you're one of the "quiet" ones that work well and say little. Keep us posted on your work.

    Question

My first "power" engraver was also the NgravR and it has served me well over the years. Nowadays I use it when doing "period" pieces and need to replicate hammer marks, when not actually using the hammer and chisel. Kinda dumb to use it as the H&C is quick and easy for such work.

    Still life with Skull

Now I see! I originally thought it should be softened somewhat but now I understand. Great rendition.

    Still life with Skull

Very interesting Mark. I'm impressed with the refraction of the wine glass onto the book, although it looks a little too strong, IMHO.

    Any mistake can be fixed

As the late master Ken Hurst told me, "Everyone makes mistakes, the trick is to either fix it or incorporate it into the design." Of course, keeping mistakes to a minimum is the goal, not learning how to correct them as a course of action.

The Art of Engraving is Coming Back

You're absolutely correct Roger, learning on your own is extremely difficult as you're trying to perform without knowing what to do. As I tried and tried to execute my cuts without the slightest idea how to even sharpen the graver properly, the frustration factor went off the chart. But, through...

The Art of Engraving is Coming Back

Wow! A shock to see this article written many years ago. Thanks for sharing it.

    Rococo Images

For a good exercise in just cutting, transfer a few of these on practice plates and cut away....it will provide great detail studies. I have some of these designs from Dover Publications and they're good for warm-ups when I am out of practice.

    Some of yours, Sam?

I have some of those pens, in different metal colors, for details in models. Never tried them on engraving, nor do I intend to.

    Liner Gravers

That looks like the old time (maybe not so old) graver for inside bowl work.

    Anyone else have dry eye?

I've had dry eye issues ever since cataract surgery (comes with the territory) and take eye drops every morning and whenever it crops up. Drink a lot of water and force yourself to blink a lot. We engravers tend to stare a lot, whether under the 'scope or studying on the computer, both...

Help, please: Henry Company Rifles...Which ones CAN be engraved?

The "Big Boys" cut very well. I've done many and never had a problem. Leave the others alone, not good cutting.

    FEGA Magazine issue #120

Yes, John, and it would be nice if our members supported the FEGA forum a little more.

    Help Contacting Brian Marshall

I tried searching for some info, to no avail. I think I remember him mentioning taking some time off for travel but don't remember much else.

    Very inexpensive practice plates

Try the stainless fender washers for a good challenge.

    Yard Crew

After seeing these, my right index finger is twitching and won't stop! I won't be doing any hunting this year, my wife is recovering from endometrial cancer surgery and it's my turn to take care of her (she's always talking care of me), and I don't mind at all. She is doing fine, just has to be...
