Here in the south we don't have to worry about that much. I remember Rex Pedersen recommending a heated floor mat to me for keeping warm feet while working. I said this is Louisiana...I need one that cools :)

There's nothing wrong with building your own tools if that's what you enjoy doing. For the rest of us, we want plug-and-play so we can get to work learning or doing engraving.
Daniel: you can sharpen with or without a power hone. A good way is to use a GRS sharpen fixture such as the Apex or EasyGraver fixture and use it ona whetstone or diamond lap. Of course a power hone makes it easier but it can be done perfectly without one.

I’ve probably made every mistake that can be made and only one wasn’t fixable, and that was a small gold charm with the name going down instead of up and it didn’t match the other charms. I had to fabricate one from scrap so that one cost me. The rest were fixable, or should I say disguisable.
