Getting hand control on power graver

707chrisa, I believe you will find that the Lindsay $1150 graver sale was also a foot control unit. He want's a palm control engraver. The Lindsay foot control graver can be changed to palm control, but at the cost of many $$$. Another solution. When I was teaching engraving, mostly H&C, one...

    Another little bit of practice

You have a good one going here with a little more work. Don't waste it. With a little more work and a light background treatment of trees, grasses, sky, hills and texture etc. you can cover most of the plate scratches. Old saying, with some truth. :) "The difference between a Pro and an...

    Another little bit of practice

Very nice. Very light and well done. I would like a little heavier presentation with more shadow, darks and dimension. Such as the bridge of the nose, inside corner of the eyes, nose to cheeks and under the bottom jaw. Just my thinking. But maybe you were looking for a light presentation of your...

    Drawing practice...

Some very nice elements. For drawing presentation only, gentle use of a sharp, shaped eraser on your penciled in background will help to smooth it out.

Dubbing the Point of a graver

The stabbing of a newly sharpened graver into the end grain of a piece of hardwood is effective in removing any rolled-over metal edges (wire edges) that remain connected to the graver. Stabbing the end grain is also thought to apply a slight polish to cutting surfaces. Some engravers also...

Dubbing the Point of a graver

Usually done by hand holding the shaped and sharpened graver. You can use 600 grit wet/dry paper over a hard surface. Or you can use a stationary diamond lap or EZ lap. My method is to hold the graver with the bottom lift and clearance area slightly raised with the point in contact with the...
