    One year to Master?

Anyway, he seemed to have disappeared from the planet. Probably when he found out it wasn't as easy as it appears.

    One year to Master?

I was just thinking back through the years of the Engravers Cafe and I got to wondering whatever happened with that guy who set out to learn hand engraving from start to being a Master Engraver in one year? He just seemed to disappear. Hopefully, he kept engraving beyond that one year.

If you use this site, please be sure to send Sam a few dollars. It's a cheap way to learn and get advice. Today is a good day to do it.

    Brass Graver Lube Cups

Originally designed by Sam Alfano, I decided to make a run of 144 of these heavy brass graver lube cups. A tool you will use every day and it will last just about forever. Sam uses one for lube and one for Transfer Wax. You can get them on eBay here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/274791800959 They...

Lindsay Engraving Collets vs GRS Tools Collets

The subject of whether you can use the Lindsay Engraving long collets in the GRS hand pieces and whether you can use the GRS QC collets in the Lindsay collet nose hand pieces has come up from time to time. I did a side by side comparison and, they are fully interchangeable. The Lindsay collet...

    Announcement: Pledge Membership

I must have forgotten to chip in when my last year ran out. I know I've gotten WAY more benefit than the paltry amount requested each year. I just chipped in again. It's the LEAST we can do. Most of you can afford at least a small donation to help Sam pay the expenses so... I suggest you do...

Question: Engravers Cafe vs Engraving Bench - Hand Engraving Tips & Techniques

I know many of us are on both forums. I tend to check the Facebook version more often and, only check in here once in awhile. I VERY rarely look at the Engraving Forum (Lindsay) but, I do once in awhile. Almost never for the others. As for myself, I'm thinking Sam and the Facebook forum is...

    Hand Cast Pewter Cabinet Pulls

They have a 2002 date on the back of them so you never know. I've never seen that anyone took credit for it so I figured I'd ask.

    Hand Cast Pewter Cabinet Pulls

We are having our master bathroom remodeled and I bought these hand cast pewter cabinet pulls made by Notting Hill in Wisconsin. As small of a world it is when it comes to engravers and engraving, I'd almost bet that someone here on the forum must have engraved the mold.

    Chip inlay epoxy

Only Epoxy 330 is water clear and hard enough to be ground and polished along with the chips. You could also use a blue color of Ceramit Enamel to give you a more uniform color.

    Rehab

I first heard this from an old timer years ago and I've found it to be true in my case also. Eating beef will oftentimes spike my pain levels way up there. It usually hits me the next day. Not all beef does it. I think it has a lot to do with what they were injected with and how the beef was...

    Rehab

Six years ago, I had a surgery at Mayo in Rochester, MN for C-3,C-4 stenosis. It was supposed to have been one of those in one day and home the next surgeries. After I woke up from the 5 hour surgery, my left arm and left leg were paralyzed. I could walk just fine prior to that. So, the next...

Acanthus leaf scrolls carved in stone 104 years ago

I was flying my camera drone taking some photos of our local Masonic Temple here in Grand Forks, North Dakota recently. There are some things that a person can't see very readily from the street level. I like the acanthus leaf scrolls on either side of the Scottish Rite eagle. The...
