SamW,Thank you very much for all your help it is appreciated. I spent new years day in a duck blind with my boys while waiting between flocks I just studied the clouds. I may have figured out what I was doing wrong. From your example and watching clouds my problem was hard edges I'll try again without them and see what happens.

In a duck blind with your boys...that's even a better way to start a new year off right than engraving all day!! Bravo!!

With today's digital photography ease, take lots of photos of interesting looking clouds...start a file for study. You will likely find little areas in the photos that will make great background.
