Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath.
This made him a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.
And for a wee bit of unknown history: My wife's grandfather was a Baptist missionary in India. Both her Mom and Aunt were born there during his tenure. He was friends with both Gandhi and Nehru. He was the one who gave Gandhi the Sears sewing machine that he often pictured with. Nehru was a frequent visitor at their house when he was in the county and my wife remembers the stench of curry during those visits. Its smell still turns her stomach today.
