Roger Bleile posted back in 2007, "In the absence of a microscope, the best thing I have found for inspecting the graver point is this pocket microscope..."

Based on that, I ordered a Carson 20x-60x Pocket Micro for $13 on Amazon. Wow, what a difference! 20x is perfect. I was able to spot a broken graver point that I totally missed with my $10 Bausch & Lomb 10x Eye Loupe. The plastic lens on the B&L loupe is not very clear. I know there are better quality loupes out there, but I am glad I followed up on Roger's recommendation and got the pocket microscope. Thought I would pass this along for anyone it might benefit.

P.S. The text included with the link above is not actually from Roger's post, but clicking on the link, will take you to Roger's post

Apparently Harbor Freight is not selling them anymore. I'm glad I have two plus the old ones with the aluminum tubes. I has another that I gave to a Belgian engraver, DuBois about ten years ago. Looks like Hobie found another source for the item.

cool for sure. when i suspected a point, i just shoved it under the scope. perfect power and lighting. i do use a similar pocket scope when mass resharpening. the little on board led makes quick of tip inspections. i don't recal where i got mine. it was about 18 bucks & free shipping.

I carry a 10x jewelers loupe like I do a pocketknife. The pocket microscope sounds like a nice graver looker atter! I see lots of different ones listed online.
