Very inexpensive practice plates

I have been messing around with these 7/8 inch washers lately. Readily available, cheap and cuts very nicely. Great for practice boarders and ideas. Just thought I would pass it along.

Fender washers are good practice plates because they are large with a small hole. My first practice plates were electrical junction box covers.

Agreed, but there is something so satisfying about taking something "ugly and plain" and making it sparkle. Yes the fender washers do not require near as much prep work

LOL! I have done several other projects in stainless....stainless steel can be a real pain. I switched these mild steel washers for something easy and relaxing just to try out new ideas.

Big-Un does have a point, you can learn a lot from engraving stainless steel...for instance after a while you can get the the point where you can sharpen a 120degree graver in your sleep.

No worries. Yes the background was removed in a "wood chip cutting" style leaving the original surface for the initials. Easier to see in the photo.

Roger: I made this miniature Bowie from a junction box cover. The sheath was made by someone else.

I recommend people use tools for practice plates. wrenches, hammers, sockets, , lots of different shapes, contours, and sizes, in all sorts of finishes and hardness levels. just like the real world. and you have to learn how to hold them as well.
