Pricing a entire GRS system hardly used

my opinion only, no disrespect meant but 20% off todays prices isnt much for mass produced items that are used. A bit lower for stuff you can’t use would be more attractive & more likely to sell in one fell swoop. Good luck

    Alternative to Lindsay Vise?

Marvin, wondering what your beef is with the cheap vise? I believe I have a cheap vise, bought it 20 yrs. ago.it has no markings I can see on it . I took the top part & cleaned & lubed it. It’s pretty smooth. most of my h & c cutting was done on a southbend lathe Chuck with a potter wheel on...

Is the PulseGraver underpowered for flair cutting?

I’ve done some flair cutting with my Pulse graver. Silver & brass. Ive taken full cutting edge sweeps with no problems. Trying to hog a wide cut may take more than one pass depending on the metal you’re cutting. This is a machining principle .Hogging is a machining term it means taking too big...

One thing I would say, most any engraving you do will be on a much smaller scale. Learn to compress the skin art into an inch or so.

    Practice with H&C

I’ve hand sharpened 30+ yrs. It’s hand / eye coordination. This takes time & practice. i use those 7/8 / 1” thin diamond wheels to rough out the face angles, use a piece of round stock of proper size to brace graver for the heels. A Lindsay template is inexpensive & useful. Remember everyone was...

Looks to me the heel on your graver might be a bit too long. It looks to me like scuff, drag marks on the outside of your scrolls. I smaller heel will help you run those tighter curves. A bit of lube doesn’t hurt either.

Uneven belly facets with Lindsay template

Ive had slight variations but not enough to bother the cutting. I must say your bench stones must be identical height. i use a 10x loupe also.

Question About Work Bench Set Up

Kfryer, looks like you jumped in with both feet! I think a high quality palm vise you can rotate freely negates the band wheel. Not a rule , my opinion only. Good luck.

Be careful. “Junk” receivers that have a serial # are considered guns. Meaning the receiver in your possession should be recorded in a bound book while you do the work & you would need a 0-1 FFL. Grinding off serial # considered a felony. If you engage in the business of engraving guns you will...
