my opinion only, no disrespect meant but 20% off todays prices isnt much for mass produced items that are used. A bit lower for stuff you can’t use would be more attractive & more likely to sell in one fell swoop. Good luck
Marvin, wondering what your beef is with the cheap vise? I believe I have a cheap vise, bought it 20 yrs. ago.it has no markings I can see on it . I took the top part & cleaned & lubed it. It’s pretty smooth.
most of my h & c cutting was done on a southbend lathe Chuck with a potter wheel on...
I’ve done some flair cutting with my Pulse graver. Silver & brass.
Ive taken full cutting edge sweeps with no problems.
Trying to hog a wide cut may take more than one pass depending on the metal you’re cutting. This is a machining principle .Hogging is a machining term it means taking too big...
Welcome, learn to sharpen by hand. Lots of utubes free demonstrate the technique. a 45 deg. Face / 15 deg. Heel will do what you want. If the graver runs straight after sharpening You can proceed. Optical exact flats are not need for good engraving. At your beginning stage different geometry is...
I’m a hobbyist silversmith, I used h&c & push since the 90’s. I do / learning stone setting. Heard about pulse graver, saw Christian’s utube demo, bought one. At 75 I thought why not? Not sorry, no compressor, easy variable power, easy adjustment. It is small & mighty. Truly revolutionary imho...
I’ve hand sharpened 30+ yrs. It’s hand / eye coordination. This takes time & practice. i use those 7/8 / 1” thin diamond wheels to rough out the face angles, use a piece of round stock of proper size to brace graver for the heels. A Lindsay template is inexpensive & useful. Remember everyone was...
Looks to me the heel on your graver might be a bit too long. It looks to me like scuff, drag marks on the outside of your scrolls. I smaller heel will help you run those tighter curves. A bit of lube doesn’t hurt either.
Kfryer, looks like you jumped in with both feet! I think a high quality palm vise you can rotate freely negates the band wheel. Not a rule , my opinion only. Good luck.
Wasn’t being negative, opinion on what usually happens. Btw, I’ve got grape & kiwi vines.. Ive studied their habit.. however as I’ve opined before, the average viewer don’t know Jack about proper development of a scroll.. Rockingj will progress & learn what good design should look like. There...
Be careful. “Junk” receivers that have a serial # are considered guns. Meaning the receiver in your possession should be recorded in a bound book while you do the work & you would need a 0-1 FFL. Grinding off serial # considered a felony. If you engage in the business of engraving guns you will...
