like those above, i seldom hand engrave items brought to me. i engrave by hand only on things i make-- buckles, pendants, fobs , and such. if i screw somethin up, i curse and toss ! i don't think one should ever take a chance on working when there's medical reason to be wary.
one oh crap...
i use diamond stones or 6" diameter disks. all are wetted with common mineral oil. all dust remains embedded or trapped in the min. oil. when time to clean a spritz of wd40 and a tooth brush works well. gravers that have relief grinds on the sides and bottom require very little during re...
the pick is a very fitting gift. great looking, and a practical piece. your loss is tough to endure. many never realize the blessing that others bring to life. that is until they're no longer with us. we all wish you strength and peace in your heart.

i'd surely think .25" thick would be a bugger to bend without some sort of hydraulic power press. i got a batch of "commercial" grade. it cuts well. out of the box it has a pleasant satin finish. i never polished the stuff. did xperiment with annodizing. got some cool, but subtle color effects...
most people that visit here do welcome beautiful creations done by hand. one of our members created cameos. although not engraving, very nice to look at.
i see hand engraving everywhere xcept under the blue panel. the 3-d work over the blue area looks to me to be a lost wax creation. the wax pattern created by hand. jmho
to some of us this was almost what we endured. my wife had a cerebral hernia when i bought a gravermeister for the enormous sum of $425.00. just for kicks, i think i'll buy another.
