    Pendant, Practice gold inlay

Years ago I did a few dragonflies and found some very detailed photos and drawings of their wings on the internet. I’m sure there are similar images for bees. You can probably find whatever you need if you search for “honeybee wing images”. The rest of your engraving is so well done I’d just...

    Pendant, Practice gold inlay

I love it, but my only very mild criticism would be the detail in the veining of the wings isn’t at the same level as the rest, which is excellent.

    Help identifying engraver

I take it that you’ve gone over it thoroughly for any sort of signature or initials? It looks like a pretty nice job.

Hi Danae! I’m not sure why you feel the need to transfer every last shade line and dot anyway? The basic construction lines and maybe a few hints to locate the details has always been plenty for me. Perhaps you’re chasing perfection of something with little practical use. MHO, YMMV…

    Multicolor inlay (first try)

Instead of sharp pointed teeth made with a square or onglette, i set my teeth with a round graver. I originally started doing this to avoid tiny steel points poking thru the inlay, but learned they’re stronger and less prone to collapse. I make them in paired opposing rows- maybe some offset...

    French grey techniques

Hi Everyone- The other day I was seeking photos of the first SCI Big Five rifle (thx again, Roger!) because a client wanted to see the retro ‘80s blue, grey, & gold finish. Turns out it wasn’t idle curiosity and he wants that treatment on his next project. Apparently everything really does come...

What’s the name for this pattern?

If anybody knows, it will probably be Roger Bleile. He should be along sooner or later.

What material ist the „ceramic wheel“ made of?

I think most people have switched to cast iron laps. I have a 6” diameter ceramic lap that I never use. New they’re now $397.00. Anyone care to make me an offer?

    A trial and error process

Funny you mention pressed pennies at tourist traps. A couple months ago a guy called me about engraving some sort of custom die for one of those machines that he bought for a song at a yard sale. We talked about it, but hand engraving was not gonna be a cost effective option. I haven’t seen one...

I believe the 720 has been discontinued for some time now. The current model is the Magnum, #004-940 for $440.00 As luck would have it, I have one for sale in Buy & Sell for half that. (hint hint).

    I need a few photos…

THAT’S IT, ROGER, THANK YOU!!! That rifle was all over the gun press 40 yrs ago, but nowadays it seems like anything that happened before the internet never existed.

    I need a few photos…

C’mon! Nobody has a stack of 40 years worth of American Rifleman or Rifle or Guns & Ammo? Maybe a 1982-3 Gun Digest? That rifle was in everything back then.

    I need a few photos…

Thanks, Roger, but that’s the 5th rifle in the series, I’m looking for the 1st. It was also a Miller & McKenzie collaboration, but on a Mauser with French greyed scroll and elephants on the floorplate.

    I need a few photos…

…of the first Safari Club Intl Big Five rifle from circa 1982-3? I can find plenty of shots of the 5th because it sold at auction a couple years ago, but not the first. The first was also built by David Miller, on a 1909 Argentine square bridge Mauser in .458 Win, stocked with an unbelievable...
