That looks a lot better with the scrolls starting to fill in the entire shape. With that the focus falls from the center to the engraving design as a whole. Coming together and looking good.

I like it but roses are really fiddly to do straight on. I've never had success doing them that way. I've always had more success either doing them from the side or finding a decent drawn rose on google images and use that to draw from. But with more detail added it should look even better.

A YouTube video of John Farman engraving english scroll, along with a look at his drawings and a bit of gold inlay. Not really a training film but more of a look at some of his technique in action. Using GRS equipment and some cuts done with out power assist. Its three years old and probably...
Gaudi was amazing, both in his architecture and his vision of a natural world which in combination is like stepping into one of his dreams. Here are two examples of his ability to be majestic and human at the same time.
We all live in places with spectacular sites, natural, human made or if...
I taught someone who wanted to do scroll engraving but had no experience in it. I don't have any experience either but I have practiced enough to know I should stay with jewelry. The student kept showing me examples from the net that he thought were pretty good. They weren't.
The thing is...
I had a customer come into my engraving shop and asked for a quote. I gave him one which he thought was too high. He asked me to justify my price. Thought about it for a couple of minutes trying to think of how to justify my price. And then it occurred to me the answer. I told him, the price is...
I'm into the engraving on guns but not guns themselves. Never grew up with guns or knives so the engraving on them means more to me than the gun itself. But that gun is a beautiful piece of workmanship. Plus the engraving fits it perfectly. Its simple but dynamic and adds to the balance of the...
I think I may have that 40 year old stack of American Rifleman. Unfortunately I think they're behind my 52 years stack of National Geographic so it may take me a while to get to them. Crap, just noticed that before the National Geos I have all the books I've been meaning to read since high...

Absolutely right. A lot of this came out of india and wasn't brass but badly casted bronze. Because of the cuts it looks like the original was engraved. I used to hate people bringing this in for additional engraving and I developed the skill of cheerfully denying any pressure of store...

This is how I would transfer the design.
First I would clean the original band with acetone to make sure its clean. The take a piece of modeling clay and pat it all around the design. Then a piece of clear tape with no air bubbles or other imperfections. Wrap the tape around the brass...
OK, engraving just silver and gold its something I'll never use. I'll put it on the buy-sell page and see if anyone needs one.
Thanks again for the help

Thanks for the information. But I am so mechanically ignorant it might take me a while to figure out where the socket head cap screw actually is.
Usually I just sent the classic back to Steve for him to clean and make sure everything is working well. I had the classic for about 25 years...

Thanks for the tip. When I first got my classic airgraver 25 years ago and Steve was more available for conversation he had to walk me through step by small step to setting it up. And then he talked me through setting up the an air compressor. So when it comes to things like setting the...
I was able to purchase a used Lindsay Palm Control yesterday. It runs great and was easy to install. The only question I have is the idle speed. On the classic the idle speed was controlled by a small knob on the air pressure gauge. Here I don't see one and the idle speed is too strong when the...
This is a watch dial for a German custom watch company. So imagine it the size of a standard watch dial. Then look at the outside rim and see the stars which are raised up since they cast a shadow. Then the stars in the dial itself look recessed without the hint of a tool mark.
I'm thinking...
