Interesting question. I just measured, the microscope is tilted by about 14 degrees. I use it also for stone setting, where the angled view comes in handy. Turning in and out of focus is rarely a problem. I usually work with high magnification, the field of view is 2cm or less.
Hi, I got my iPad Pro dezember 2019, read about the sketchboard, and thought it a good idea. I had seen before other designs from wood or plywood also. I had no patience to wait for the sketchboard, so I went to the hardware store and bought some hard PVC foam boards, their thickness the same as...
Hello Emerald Jim,
Thanks for Your positive feedback!
This ones is 0.8mm or 1/32“ thick. It is the first one, let‘s see how well it works. It‘s dimensions are 55x12.5 mm, it feels pretty heavy. I might try 0.6 mm next time. From my feeling 0.6 might work for single sided engraving. If somebody...
Hello,
Here’s a picture of a silver bookmark I engraved after the Vectornator design I recently posted in “Digital art”. I’m aware that it’s far from perfect and is also far away from the styles of gun or knife engraving.
Cheers
Ralf
Hi, here’s my first attempt at scrollwork design with Vectornator. I did not strictly follow a specific style, just doodling away. Vectornator has a function for spirals which makes decent backbones. I used 70% as spiral parameter for them, that fits the golden spiral best. The beauty cuts are...
Can‘t say. I‘m only certain that slightly radiused heels make shinier cuts, but than I work mostly with silver. I only put radiused heels on flat gravers systematically.
Maybe it‘s the way you polish the gravers, that makes a difference between wider and narrower V angles?
For the european readers: the cheapest source I found and used so far is

in France. The average price for a 435 ccm bottle is around 40 Euros in Germany and...
Just checked my Jun-Air, it’s got just the this valve to get the water out, no plug at the bottom of the air tank.
From my own bad experience, when I let the water out the first time after buying the compressor: this could be messy, rusty water and oil stain clothes and floor quite...
When using round stock, I grind a flat along the rod opposite to the business end first. For this I set post dial and tool dial to zero. This flat serves me for orienting the round stock the same way all the time.
The angle tables provided for the GRS Apex system are also some help, even more...
You might have a look here, the subject is pretty close to your question. Keep on polishing..

When using the iPad, I employ Vectornator (this app is free) to import images, draw in the cuts as Bezier curves (aka splines) and scale them to the size I’d like them on the metal. It could also draw spirals for the use as backbones easily. Try a decay of 70%, it fits a Golden spiral.
With mine, I wipe them clean with degreaser once they are slow down in cuttings speed or leave scratches in the polished face and heel. In case of the polishing wheel with 0.5um diamond paste it might be steel debris buildup that causes the scratches. One day the brass disc should be charged...
Yes, 5cm is almost 2“ (5.08cm). The discs are 2mm thick (0.08“), punched out of sheet, roughly 2 $ per disc. As they are punched out, they are slightly domed upon arrival, it tooks some work to flatten them.
This litte machine I made over easter. It works very satisfying for me. I‘ve just grund...
