There is a ton of logic in what Roger says about putting a whole lot of effort into a colt. The initial cost of the gun is miniscule compared the cost/value of the engraving. A colt will always be a volt and hold its value better down the road.
Any of the slides from all the brands have lettering that in one way or another ruin the concept of a good flowing design. Especially if you want to engrave any scenes on the sides of the slides.

Just be aware of the fact that the frame itself is cast brass while the side plates are machined brass. The feel and resistance while you engrave will be different as you cut from one to the other. They are fun to engrave.

You can also try rotating the handle so to change the location of the button in your palm usually somewhere in the 12 o'clock position works but try a slight rotation in both directions to see if that helps
