i have had good results on these and laptops using a laser. never used my cnc machine on one. i always insist that the customer is willing to assume risk if something goes wrong.
for one thing, i always used white cotton gloves from the drugstore. the sweat from your hands can wreak havoc on the finish if it's really a smooth finish. graver control is an absolute requirement in this metal. if you get a slip, repairing such will drive one to consume much alcohol ...
welcome. i suggest that you get some copper to develop pushgraving skills. learning to push on steel, tho possible, is way more difficult than on copper. visit yer local scrapyard. sometimes some really good copper stock can be found there, and at prices much better than from metal suppliers...
welcome. your background has no doubt given you the discipline of persistence. some pick up a bit more quickly thn others, but the time spent is always rewarding. good luck in your pursuit.
i use one made with a lazy susan base. i can also put my leather shot bag on it when the need comes along. to be really useful, one should find a way to apply a brake to stop rotation when needed.
ergonomics ?? just as important as anything else imho. no fun with neck pain, back pain, and a host of other problems. the only way i'd ever work with the vise strictly parallel to the floor was with h&c whilst standing up.
without tilting the vise, even to extremes at times, will drive you...
to answer that-- i'd need to know the surface finish. matte, shiney polished, etc. i'd probably wear a finger cot or perhaps latex gloves. you'll have to experiment to see what worx best.
get on the net. there's ways to clean those cartridges. fairly easy fixes. they also show how one can save money by refilling the used cartridges. i used to do refilling. i no longer do as i don't really do enough printing to justify the procedure.
an easy way to do this without the fuss and xtra steps{{{ use anodized blanks. no need to do any further step. to answer though, i'd use black rustoleum. the problem here-- each piece will have to be wiped clean after black is applied. not sure there's a quick & easy solution requiring no...
nice video. thank you for showing. i noticed you use a rather steep ( for me ) angle for holding your chisel. curious to know what sort of geometry you use on the face & heels.
