    Critique Request Duck bulino

I agree that the open bill/beak throws it off. I just don’t see what it is supposed to look like. On the good side your graver control looks good and I think you did a real good job where the bill meets the head. Nice shading on the cheek. Dan

    Progress pics

Thanks. I always find it interesting to see bulino work with some context. Here is a picture with a head hair in the shot, and then just a close up pic. (What appears to be a scratch from the nostril is just a piece of lint). Previously I progressed by nearly completing the eyes, then nearly...

    Progress pics

Thanks TG and John. John, you may have noticed the design changes. I must admit the design is not my favorite but after countless hours of design which I shared here, I transferred it to metal and I found that my design was not cut able. It was simply too small on metal. In the space that I...

Critique Request English Fine Scroll Practice

I agree, generally it is a good start. In addition to the other observations I was curious about the backbone design. Do you have a picture of just that portion without the leaves? I tried to trace your engraved backbone and found a few questionable areas in red. But I am not an English...

Concave and bulino, bank note tools adapters

Received the new angled push handle and adapter. So far using the angled adapter for stippling seems to be really good. Not sure about cuts yet though. the angled hand push handle works Great with the Phil Coggan tip For fine line push shading. See photo below (One of my head hairs for...

I chose the 1911 for my first gun and I only cut the flats. Nothing special but easy to get past the first gun jitters.

Critique Request Gift for my wife

Thanks John-Ove. Allan, are you referring to his right side As shown by the arrow? In the attached photo added some shading to that area in in Procreate as a test before I touch the coin. That much shading is probably only 25 dots but hard to remove if wrong.

    Multi color inlay work

Stunning work. I’m curious how you achieved such a black background. It looks too dark to be charcoal blueing. Dan

    Help: Is this die retouching?

The coin depicted in the web link looks significantly different than the one in your photo especially in this area. Is yours just a bad photo?

    Help: Is this die retouching?

Hi Numidian. Based on your last post you seem to be frustrated that we are not confirming your hypothesis. No one replied that it could not be done with a graver but everyone seems to be in agreement that the chances are very close to zero if not zero that is was done by a graver. In your...

    Help: Is this die retouching?

I don’t have a nickel I can take a photo of but if you google the Canadian nickel you will see this is a close up of the back side of a beaver. The modifications to the coin on the left changed the profile of the beavers butt not in a good or natural way. So why would the die be re-touched to...
