Nice work. I agree though that the proportions of the bison are a bit off. I was able to complete a quick outline of the model and then transposed it to your engraving. I use Procreate but, there are probably other tools to use as well. Starting with a good outline will make a big difference...
Interesting reading. I always thought that it was a macro vs micro centering issue but perhaps it was an angle issue. There is a good 4-5” from the top of the turntable to the work piece which could have changed the effective center. In either event when I recentered the turntable base as...
l have the same setup and find it impossible to center the turntable by itself. So I start off as you have in order to get a gross centering. then I place the vise on the turntable, turn up the magnification, and complete the same steps as before. I focus on one hole on the top of the vise...
I would say look no further. It is beautiful. I love the pantina/shading especially the flower under and right of the middle hummingbird. The dot punch really stands out and gives a perfect contrast. I even had to look back at the pictures of the action because I didn’t recall the dot punch...
Amazing work Lee. It looks like the top section is not completely sculpted but yet you have dot punched the background on the lower section. If I am seeing it correctly then did you punch the lower section just to kind of break up the process or is there a bigger reason?

Hi Mitch. Yes, I think I will. I’m now retired from my day job and recently started cutting some bulino after about three years of just drawing. Need to practice my pneumatic skills before cutting the rifle. But I will get there.

Hi Sam. I’m not sure how to respond to such a nice compliment, thank you. It was a pleasure to meet you and I appreciated your helpful suggestions.
I doubt that I will make Vegas in 2020 but who knows what 2021 will bring.

Thanks so much for your guidance John. I must admit that there is much to consider when designing. A bit daunting at times, but still fun. Let me try some changes and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the honest feedback John. And thanks for the compliment.
So if I understand you correctly the scrolls are too tight or too busy. On all the pieces or just the butt plate? I superimposed the design on the bottom metal and wonder if you comment applies there too.
