Announcement: Lynton McKenzie instructional videos now available

Instagram is a photo uploading site where you can post comments. Not like a forum, but maybe a super light version. I've talked to jewelers who get 100% of their work via Instagram. I know it performs really well for me. When you're here in the Cafe you're amongst engravers. On Instagram you're...

Announcement: Lynton McKenzie instructional videos now available

The vise in the video is a Mittermeir gunsmith vise mounted on dovetail slides for X Y positioning and centering under the scope. When he came to my home a few months before his death he showed me plans for a turntable arrangement he was working on and offered to build me one. He became quite...

    Critique Request Black Leaf?

Yes the Churchill-Eaton book. Well worth having IMO. I've been studying and struggling with blackleaf for 35 years, and am just now getting to where I'm not ashamed to show it to people. Many do a predictable version where the same butterfly shaped leaf is used over and over. Some are good...

    Critique Request Black Leaf?

It's blackleaf'ish but not a true blackleaf. Not bad though, but I think with time it will improve. Not my favorite design you've done but it has much potential. Churchill does the best example you'll ever see. It's worth getting his book from GRS.

    Colt Defender

You need to set a custom white balance Mark. Your photos look purplish and that's easy to overcome. I shoot Canon for this type of work and use a 100mm macro. I see no reason why your setup can't produce good photos. It's more the light than it is the camera. You might check out the article I...

    Lighting

A few days ago I purchased two 48" LED bulbs that replace fluorescent bulbs above my bench. I got the ones that use the ballast and don't require re-wiring. Like you said Sam, instant on, bright daylight balanced light. They are probably 10% brighter than the fluorescent bulbs in other fixtures...
