Sorry for late reply.. been away for a while. Anyway, there are a few tips that can help for engraving stainless..
One is patience, practice and graver control which will be better the more your try. At least the practice and graver control, but what you can do before to help a little is to...
Why not just getting the Lindsay templates and stones.. yea it´s boring to sharpen them up by hand, but onece you have the shape they last a long time and only needs touch ups when they get dull or tip breaks.. I did that for years before I got a power hone. I never do the touch up or the heels...
I think the client did it himself in a unconscious moment.. I told him not to, but.. the rounded edges made it a lot harder to try to fix. The outline and shading I could “easily” do again, but with all round edges the shading and reconstruction some shapes was really tricky.. for the naked eye...
In the first page of this thread, there is a ring I engraved some months ago. I sent it off to the client and after a few days he got a great idea to polish it with some kind of electric buffer... it was poslished to death! It was devastating to see all the work I put into it was just ruined in...
Thank you very much! :-) Oh yes, beside engraving, and making music now and then, nothing more joyful and relaxing.. Even after a full day engraving, I love to sit down and draw.. I try to draw every day, coming up with new designs (for me).. some just for the design and some for helping me with...
After looking way too many hours in the scope and my eyes goes cross eyed, nothing more relaxing drawing and try to come up with nice shapes.. and playing a little with a dot shading brush for Procreate I´m making.. :-)
Thank you very much! :-) Just plain old very sharp, but I sharp it with 3 faces.. not sure if that would do any difference, but I feel it´s getting sharper and holds up better :-)
Thanks for watching! :-)
I was using a Lindsay Classic just idling very very lightly.. so mostly hand pressure but I like when idling just a tiny bit :-)
In the tool I have a super sharp carbalt :-)
I didn’t see that, but I I had plans to put something in the “nose”.. and had a little different plans for the top with all the “balls” but I stopped.. :-) Shading didn’t turn out as good as I hoped, but it’s only one way to get there.. trying again :-) Thanks!
For your first one, try finding one that has pretty flat sides and as little curves as possible.. unless you’re up for a good challenge :-)
Sometimes the curves up to the crown can be very tricky if the curves are sharp, and if the watch has curves in every direction you’re going to have a...
Thank you! :) I suppose you are talking about the last photos of the watch bracelet links. It´s all done with a normal Universal 116 sharpened graver.. it´s the exact same graver I use for all of my engraving. Some times I make the face more steep, but since this was so small it´s easier to see...
