i like fiddling (making) with stuff. i made one. it works well, but i don't use it. just made it for the "h" of it. i cant speak for all, but i don't think any of the home built power toys can compare with lindsay or grs. jmho
believe it or not, many years ago template material was sold for this very purpose. it was made using recycled egg cartons. it was ok for very limited use. useless for more than maybe a dozen tracings, or for highly detailed templates.
leonardo: it's an old, old story. if you want quality, it's worth the extra money. buying junk brings an immediate price reward. but long term, better to buy quality the first time.
roger finds plexiglas easy to work. i have found common engravers ( machine ) plastic cuts way smoother. an added advantage is the color contrast between surface and the core color. i've even done many using 6 x 12" x .062" aluminum. not recommended tho, as the stuff is kinda cranky to cut.
i watched it. some say a foto is worth a thousand words. this video is worth a couple jillion words. reading how this is done was confusing to me. the vid removes the confusion. one question : what sort of font would you think best for this cut ? really curious about that, sam.
there are so many geometries and all have their place in engraving. don't lock into just one. as you get handy with one, experiment a bit. the reward for such experimentation is well worth the time inves ted.
i would have given a bit more emphasis to the scroll spine. i think that would enhance it somewhat. as far as the design, i think it is good looking. jm2cw
