Since John B. posted how he makes gravers with the square brass tubing I use them nearly all the time. My dentist saves the old carbide burrs for me. Epoxy into the tubing and sharpen to what ever geometry I need. When the carbide gets to short heat with a torch pull out the old 1 and glue in a...
Matthew, I like it all but the 3 leaves filling space at the bottom. Turn them and attach to the outside of your scrolls like you did in other areas they look like an after thought in a well thought out design. Just my opinion It's your design. I look forward to the finished project.

Thank you all for the comments. The frame is done. Our oldest son is getting married today and this is my gift to them. I wish people would buy these they are fun to do. I told my wife no one will pay for the time to complete one of these but I can shrink it to the size of a 50 cent piece and...
J J I agree that the pedestal vise is easier to use but I tried to do a portable pedestal couldn't stop the rebound and vibration. If it is heavy enough to take the hammer blows even tiny hammer blows it would be to heavy to load. I'm 60 years old I'm down to lifting semi heavy things. I won't...
A couple years ago I asked the forum members about a kick wheel vise for H/C engraving. John B. very kindly sent me a set of plans and photos of his kick wheel setup. I wanted to make mine portable and somewhat primitive looking so I could use it at black powder rendezvous. This is what I came...
I started putting sunflowers in my engraving 6 years ago because I'm a Kansas engraver. For those that don't know Kansas is the sunflower state. The response was very good and now I get called out if it is not there. I was surprised by that especially customers from other parts of the country...
Dan, No it was fine before. The only thing that I can see is the leaves on the right and left side of your engraving are cut deeper and and look like they are in front of the leopard even appears you put shadows in. The scrolls between are blending in with the cat. It may be the angle of the...
Dan, ya got another beauty on the way. I would like to just watch how you go about these.
Do you know how many hours ya got in just the eyes?
Looking forward to the next pics.

You are an amazing artist and artisan. I agree with monk as impressive as the finished product is your vison, planning and execution are equally impressive.
