    Laser "engraved" Beretta

Despite my comments above, I am a Beretta fan, when it comes to shotguns. Beretta offers good quality for price and has a very broad range. Being a Mercedes Benz fan as well, I think the two companies are a parallel comparison. Firstly, they are both the oldest companies in their respective...

For those really BIG engraving projects

I don't believe those were originally made for engraving. They were made for working on automotive and industrial products.

    Laser "engraved" Beretta

"Starting at $19,999.00" That is a high price for a sideplated boxlock shotgun with laser etching. At that price, you can get a like new, used Beretta S3 or SO5 with sidelocks and hand cut engraving. My objection to Beretta's description is calling laser etching "engraving." Many gun companies...

    Liner Gravers

This is an example of wriggling a liner tool to create background for flare cut scroll. In this example I have wriggled the tool in one direction then wriggled a second time 90 degrees to the first pass.

    Curious about the Engraver

Your pictures lack enough detail to determine much about the engraver. I can see enough to tell that this is not the work of a Colt factory engraver. Sharply focused, well lit, close-up photos of portions of the scrollwork and initials might tell me who engraved your gun. The initials EJS don't...

    Ken Hurst

Ken was a true old time American master. He taught himself to engrave using sharpened triangular files and a ball peen hammer. From that humble beginning, Ken progressed to the point that, at one time, he was master of a gun engraving shop employing several engravers. Several of his former...

    Very inexpensive practice plates

Fender washers are good practice plates because they are large with a small hole. My first practice plates were electrical junction box covers.

FEGA Convention this January..Buying a gun?

It is my understanding that there are no guns for sale at the SHOT show. The makers and distributors are there to take orders.

    Question: What is Blackleaf?

"I have heard it called different names." Besides Blackleaf, it is often misnamed Arabesque. In German speaking countries it can be called Wetzlaub, Altdeutscher Laubgravur (old German leaf engraving) , or more simply Deutscher Laub. Belgians use "genre feuilles." I don't know what Italian...

    engraving pewter

Engraving pewter is a case where graver lube is necessary. Without lube, a small deposit of pewter will stick to the heel of your graver.

Announcement: Lynton McKenzie instructional videos now available

"If you’re not on instagram these days you don’t exist. " I remember telling a fellow engraver, years ago, "if you aren't on the Internet you don't exist." Later I told him "if you don't have a website, you don't exist." Later, "if you aren't on Facebook you don't exist." I'm not on Instagram...
