your drawing for this was good imo. the cutting is consistent. i dislike the way in which the bright cuts terminate. imho, a bit more attention to initial drawing would make this a bit less "static". a bit more dynamic in appearance. time will see improvement.

    Critique Request Duck bulino

welcome to the forum. if i were to try doing bulino, i'd first make every effort to start with a very smooth, scratch free surface to practice. i also would have picked a better duck head. i feel the open beak just looks bad at the size you show. a closed beak, in my opinion, would be a better...

    Need feedback about vises

easy to use hotmelt glue. glue the piece to a larger block of wood. under the large block, glue or screw a smaller piece of wood that will easily fit the jaws. as for the lindsay, i'd assume that it accomodates the use of pins. check wit lindsay to be sure

    Help, please: DIY Jeweler's Bench

my advice, fwiw, build one larger than you think you will need. comfort while working is priority. 8 hours or more at the bench will take a toll. think of how you work, and take time to build the bench "around you".

    Need help with graver sharpening

a trick for dental burrs, the "jb trick", solder the burs into 3/32" square brass tubing that has an.062" bore. you can do micro faceting. be careful, the tiny areas can be wiped out using the hone with power on.

Tools of the trade for Bulino engraving.

jj: if i were a newbie today, i think i'd be overwhelmed with all the toy choises available. i think i'd even wonder if i really wanted to get involved with the art of engraving. i started with a hommemade hammer and an old 3-cornered file! sadly, i never did try to use a hard nail. maybe i...

    Lindsay and GRS

welcome to the forum. i have the classic. without some sort of adaptor, it will only accept a tool of 3/32 inch in width/height/ overall diameter. the grs gravers will fit if removed from the grs holding fixture. i would advise the grs sharpening device is a better buy. it allows any geometry...
